Stars of our Bars, Kilkenny 2010

Posted by James On May - 10 - 2010

There seems to be very little coverage online regarding the Stars of our Bars contest which was run over the last couple weeks so here is a video of the winning song by the talented singer/songwriter Tom Kirwan with the song ‘Don’t Be Slaved’. Onlinekilkenny.com wishes the best of luck to Tom as he competes in the regionals of Stars of our Bars representing Kilkenny in Carlow.

Friday April 30th – Monday May 3rd, 2010

This year Smithwick’s is celebrating 300 years of brewing craft and tradition in Kilkenny.  Founded by John Smithwick in 1710 he chose the site of an ancient monastery, St Francis Abbey in Kilkenny, to position his brewery.  Due to this heritage and Smithwick’s reaching this momentous occasion we are delighted that the Kilkenny Rhythm and Roots Festival will be celebrated with the Smithwick’s brand being the principal sponsor at the festival.

Spanglish – Educational and Cultural Centre, Kilkenny

Posted by James On January - 6 - 2010

Spanglish

A few words from Spanglish – Educational and Cultural Centre, Kilkenny

Spanglish is born to cover the demand of certain educational services in Kilkenny, meant to suit a broad range of the community, committing to a quality and inexpensive service to stand out from other similar services that can be found around. We are adapted to the times we live in. For that reason our main concern is to provide a quality service, promoting the value of environmental and social sustainability.

Given the current economic situation; it becomes even more important than ever to improve our CVs to adapt to the competitive employment market. It is important to stress that learning another language is essential in the global economy, and Spanish is the language in greatest expansion. The number of students choosing Spanish for their Junior and Leaving Cert has increased significantly and the demand of learning Spanish has augmented as well for the number of people choosing Spain as a destination not just for their holidays but for their retirement too. We are offering Spanish lessons that suit every need. We have groups for Junior and Leaving Cert, and for adults and children, divided by levels. We also offer a three month course for beginners and a conversation course as well.

Classroom little classroom

It is important to remark that Spanglish provides all materials necessary for the courses, so you do not need to buy any books.  We give the students our own printed material when needed, but we work based on an interactive methodology, using the game as a didactic resource, and proposing different types of activities to promote listening and speaking skills. In the special case of the Junior and Leaving cert, we don’t base our classes on a specific book either, since we have in our own records the different books used by the schools to compliment and reinforce what is explained in there.

Moreover we offer a creativity workshop through recycling materials. The conventional artistic activities normally lead to the purchase of expensive material. We want to promote the values of reusing and recycling, not just as a means of saving money, but as an alternative to the fierce consumerism of recent years, and as a sincere commitment to the environment. Moreover, the scheduled time at 12 on Saturday mornings gives parents some time for doing their own business!

And there will be even more activities to come to Spanglish!

The location of Spanglish is the Abbey Business Centre, in the heart of the city, with very good parking facilities nearby. What else could you ask for? If you are not convinced yet, come to visit us at our office in Unit 2 Abbey Business Centre, Abbey Street, Kilkenny. You can also visit our web site www.spanglishkilkenny.webs.com or contact us by phone (0863563306) or email (spanglishkilkenny@yahoo.ie). We are looking forward to hearing from you!
